Overview
Moreton Bay Swimming Club is thrilled to announce that Siena Gibson has been selected as one of just 64 of Australia’s top under-18 swimmers to participate in the prestigious Next Wave Invitational Competition Camp, hosted by Swimming Australia.
This reintroduced pathway initiative is modelled on the former Trans-Tasman Series and is a vital component of Australia’s high-performance strategy in the lead-up to Brisbane 2032.
About the Next Wave Camp
The camp gathers the nation’s most promising age-group athletes—born between 2008–2011 (plus females born 2012)—who narrowly missed Australian Junior Team selection. It provides intensive racing, relay-changeover training, cultural immersion, and high-performance routines designed to simulate the demands of international competition.
Athletes are split into two mixed teams—the Kangaroos and the Emus—to race across multiple formats, encouraging both team unity and competitive growth.
Why It Matters
National Team Support Coach Leigh Nugent has emphasised that the Next Wave Camp addresses a long-standing gap in Australia’s development pathway by giving emerging athletes meaningful exposure ahead of their international debuts.
Siena’s Selection
Siena’s inclusion reflects her outstanding performances at the 2025 Australian Age Championships. Selection for the camp was based on World Aquatics point scores achieved in the finals of each swimmer’s top-ranked event, confirming Siena’s position among Australia’s most promising juniors.
Looking Ahead
We congratulate Siena Gibson on this fantastic achievement and look forward to following her journey as she gains invaluable racing and development experience at the AIS. This is an exciting step on the pathway toward representing Australia at future international competitions.
